The Story of How I Caused Oklahoma to Lose to Texas

Standard

Cotton-Bowl4

My bizarro weekend, i.e., the reason OU lost to Texas.

It started off when Bethany Public Schools made the decision to not have Fall Break land on OU/Texas weekend. This meant we couldn’t leave early, we had to wait for the kids to get out of school.

Then, I made a critical wardrobe mistake. The last two years, I wore an OU Tshirt to dinner on Friday night in Dallas, and an OU Polo to the game.

This year, I’ve got a new dri-fit Tshirt that I wanted to wear during the game, because it was going to be hot and it would be more comfortable. So, I did the polo on Friday, Tshirt on Saturday. Continue reading

Dear Sports Parents, Chill Out.

I actually spent an hour online last week searching for AAU basketball teams my son could possibly try out for so he doesn’t get left behind and miss out on playing college basketball.

He’s nine.

Nine years old, and the way things are structured nowadays, I’m concerned he’s falling behind by not playing year round basketball at a high level.

How did this happen? How did I get so caught up on planning out my son’s future for him?

It’s the culture in which we live. We created it, and now we’re victims of it.

The following is a list of 5 ways adults are sending youth sports straight to Hell.

In other news, I’ve decided to write a book

Standard

Image

So, what’s happening today? Well, I’ve decided to write a book. Actually, I’ve had an idea for a book/screenplay for about 10 years now, and up till now, I’ve always let something get in the way. Not anymore. To keep myself accountable, I’m sharing this with you all. In order to keep my blog separate from the goings on of the book, I will be documenting my book progress, including videos and status updates, exclusively on my 5 Minutes of Your Life facebook page.   Of course, I can’t give too many details, I don’t want to spoil the book for you! But, I will answer questions about the process, and probably even ask questions too. I know this particular post will most likely only be seen by those followers of my blog, so I wanted to give you a chance to also follow my facebook page, in order to keep up to speed with the book. Aside from this post, I most likely will not refer to it much on this blog site until there is a substantial progress report. I will say, the book will be written in a similar voice that my blog is written, except, it will be fiction. Also, just to ease your worries, no vampires will make appearances in said book.

Thanks everyone.

Top 5 Ways to a Happy HUSBAND (Yes, there are 5)

Standard

A couple weeks ago, I laid out what I believed to be my Top 5 Ways to a Happy Wife. If you haven’t had the chance, give it a read after you make it through this one.

I’ve received quite a bit of feedback from that post. I’ve heard stories that some women are reading it aloud to their husbands, others are sending it to them by email, or text message. I’ve been “pinned” on Pinterest a dozen or so times. I don’t even know what that means, but from what I can gather, it’s not nearly as dirty as it sounds.

So as you can imagine, I’ve received more than a little grief from the men. amy and bo

Guys, this one’s for you.

Ladies, it’s only fair. You read the last one. You made your man read the last one. The least you can do, is read, then share this one.

So, here it is. The Top 5 Ways to a Happy HUSBAND. Continue reading

5 Confessions of a Real Live Ginger

Standard

As usual, I write to you now from the cold dark of night. The sun, safely tucked away on the other side of the earth, waits patiently to mock me again tomorrow.

The sun is my enemy. I am a ginger.

Ginger.

Should this word offend me? It seems so derogatory. I believe it’s one of those words that society, as a whole, shouldn’t say. I can say it all I want, because I am one. But not you.

Maybe Gengro would be more appropriate?

Rojo American?

To tell you the truth, that’s not even a word I was familiar with until about 5 years ago. I managed to live the first 35 years of my life, having never been called that.

Then this happened. Continue reading

Confessions of a Married Man- My Top 5 Ways to a Happy Wife

Standard

This year, I celebrated my 18th wedding anniversary. For 18 years, people have looked at me, then they look at my wife, then they look back at me and rub their eyes, as if I’ll get better looking on second glance. Nope. Sorry.

I’ve heard all the remarks, all the comments, all the “Boy, you sure did marry up!” Yeah, yeah. That’s neat. But you know what? I don’t believe in “marrying up”. Here’s why. For every guy who “married up”, there’s a girl who settled for less.  I don’t believe my wife settled for less. I’ve spent 18 years, putting in effort, and it’s never felt like work. Here we are, 18 years strong, and I’m happy, and I believe my wife is happy.

To quote the great philosopher Forrest Gump, “I’m not a smart man, but I know what love is..” Continue reading
